The month of October holds a different meaning to everyone.
The start of fall weather, spooky vibes of Halloween, or for those like me it's a time of remembrance.
Every year our family and friends join thousands of others in New Jersey in the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink at Six Flags Great Adventure.
We walk in celebration of those who have been affected by breast cancer.
It is a very moving and impactful day where we can all come together for the same cause.
Our team, Buds for Boobs, have been participating for 12 years starting with myself, my sister, and her husband.
Our reason to walk is to honor our mother, Carolyn.
She lost her fight to breast cancer on October 1, 2008. After her passing, anytime we could do anything to help in the fight, we were in. This is why we chose Komen.
They not only support the progress for a cure, they help with getting or getting to a doctor for a mammogram or treatment.
This year being turned upside down, Komen New Jersey decided to hold the walk virtually. The team leaders encouraged captains to #WalkWhereYouAre on October 4th and find somewhere, anywhere to walk.
We chose to meet at Doorbrook Park and get our 5k on! It was a beautiful day and still held the same meaning as if we were all together at Six Flags.
Just because this year is different, doesn't mean the fundraising doesn't stop.
We will be offering pink hair extensions the entire month of October with 100% of proceeds going directly to our team and our FIGHT FOR THE CURE.
We truly are stronger together!!
